University of Notre Dame and the City of Fremantle

The Italian roots of Fremantle - Australia’s gateway for tens of thousands of Italian migrants for over a century - will take centre stage in a special event organised by the Consulate of Italy in collaboration with the University of Notre Dame and the City of Fremantle.

The event will showcase a multimedia heritage project developed by Notre Dame journalism students, celebrating the legacy of the Italian presence in Fremantle. The students will be recognised with an award presented by the Consul of Italy.

This will be followed by a roundtable discussion exploring the lasting contributions of European migration to the city’s evolving identity, image and spirit.

The initiative is part of the Festival of Italian Creativity, held to celebrate Perth as the Capital of Italian Creativity in the World 2025.
